FBW revamps police station

The Florida Block Watch launched a successful clean-up campaign at the Florida Police Station.

The Florida Block Watch (FBW) has taken community service to new heights with their latest initiative when members of the block watch descended on the Florida Police Station last Thursday, May 23 to conduct a much-needed clean-up and revamp.

While some FBW volunteers and workers gave the inside of the police station a proper scrub down, others worked diligently outside revamping the gardens, removing weeds and cleaning plant beddings.

According to FBW chairperson John Kirsten, the aim is to create a cleaner, safer environment for law enforcement officers as well as for the public.

“Our law enforcement officers have more than enough on their plate to keep them busy. They do good work fighting crime in our communities. This is our way of giving back to them.”

Kirsten says that this will be an ongoing initiative by the FBW.

“There are massive palm trees in front of the police station that have become too big, and therefore pose a danger to the station, officers and the public that visit the station. The root structures of the trees are damaging underground water infrastructure resulting in a permanent water leak in front of the police station.

“We are planning to safely remove the trees and repair the damaged water pipe.”

Florida Block Watch’s ‘Young Guns’ patrollers Barend Nelson and Shelton Greyling, with Joyce Sinjo, who was in charge of food and refreshments on the day.

As always, the FBW enlisted the help of the KCCC Foundation, a local rehabilitation and reintegration facility, whose crew quickly transformed the station’s garden.

This is only one of the many successful initiatives of the FBW.

“Our relatively small, but dedicated team is involved with community patrols, various clean-up operations, the securing of electricity infrastructure, fire hydrant restoration and marking, and much more.”
