De Freitas reigns supreme at SASCS
Young racing sensation steals the show at the second round of the SASCS winning all three heats.
Ethan De Freitas returned for the second round of the 2025 South African Short Circuit Series (SASCS), which took place at the Formula K-SA racing track in Benoni on Saturday, March 8.

The King’s School West Rand learner left everyone in awe, winning all three heats and securing the top spot on the podium. Ethan’s dominance began in the qualifying session, where he secured pole position with a blistering lap time of 1:48:85 seconds. His teammate, Marnitz Otten, took second place, setting the stage for an intense battle between the two EDF Racing team duos.

In the first heat, Ethan got off to a flying start, racing away into first place and maintaining his lead throughout the race. He took the fastest lap with a time of 1:45:20 seconds and won by a massive gap of 21.16 seconds. Marnitz took second place, with Quandre Potgieter rounding out the top three. Ethan’s father, head coach of the EDF Racing Team, used the interval to prepare the boys for their second race, emphasising being vigilant on what they can improve for their next race, despite taking the top three positions.

“Any sports fanatic will tell you that it’s not over until the last whistle. Mentally preparing the boys for their next race and assuring them that they should remain focused and not comfortable until the final race. Despite their current positions in both the qualifying and first heat, there is still much work that needs to be done,” Mario explains.
Ethan’s winning streak continued in the second heat, where he once again dominated the competition, taking the fastest lap with a time of 1:44:90 seconds. He won the heat by a gap of 11.52 seconds, with Marnitz and Quandre taking second and third place, respectively.

The final heat saw Ethan and Marnitz engage in a thrilling battle, swapping positions and pushing each other to the limit. However, Marnitz’s mistake on the last lap handed the win to Ethan, who took the fastest lap with a time of 1:46:59 seconds.
