Community unites at local Easter Market

The mission behind the market is deeply rooted in community empowerment and growth.

Local lifestyle brand VAAGH, known for its stylish bar, lounge, and kitchen experience, brought the festive spirit to Strubens Valley Shopping Centre with a vibrant Easter Market on April 12.

The event delighted shoppers and families alike with its mix of great food, local crafts, music, and fun activities – all in celebration of Easter.

Organised by Aladia Moodley, who hosts the market at the shopping centre once a month, the initiative is more than just a trading platform – it’s a community-building effort.

“I organise the market at no cost to the stallholders,” said Aladia. “The reason I do this is because I’ve realised with the high rate of unemployment, a lot of people have taken to arts and crafts, baking, cooking and making stuff from home. I allow them to come out here and sell their products at no cost. So whatever money they make, the profit is theirs. In that way, it’s building a community, because I firmly believe in that.”

VAAGH echoes this spirit of upliftment.

“We believe in uplifting and growing together. And as we grow, we would like to see everyone else grow. That’s why we put together this initiative for the stallholders,” she added on behalf of the brand.

The April market transformed the shopping centre’s outdoor space into a lively and welcoming hub, filled with handmade crafts, delicious baked goods, and joyful entertainment.

Kim Spa had a stall where market goers were given free Easter Eggs and had the opportunity to pop the balloons to win a prize. The music kept everyone entertained while shopping around the stalls.

“So far, it’s been a success, and it will continue growing,” Aladia said.

“We look forward to the community coming out here to support the stallholders, because that’s going to make it a huge success.”
