Irish Rock hosts life-saving blood drive

Residents are encouraged to support future events by spreading the word, bringing a friend, or simply showing up to give the gift of life.

The Irish Rock Women’s Club once again opened its doors – and hearts – to the community on April 12, hosting a life-saving blood drive at their premises.

Locals came together to make a difference, one pint at a time.

This drive forms part of a longstanding tradition, with the club having hosted blood donation events regularly for almost a decade.

“We’ve been doing this for nearly 10 years,” said Megan Adriaanzen, one of the organisers from the club. “It’s something we’re passionate about because it directly impacts lives – and it brings the community together.”

In a show of appreciation, donors were treated to vouchers which they could redeem for a free beer or ice cream, adding a sweet (or cold) reward to their good deed.

This drive serves as the second one in this year, following last year’s series of successful events, where The Irish Rock was praised for turning compassion into community action. In 2024, the drives were not only well attended but also widely supported by locals who saw the initiative as more than a civic duty – it became a shared act of kindness.

With upcoming blood drives scheduled for June 14, August 16 and October 18, the club remains steadfast in its mission of networking for the greater good. The impact of just one unit of blood can save up to three lives, making every donor a quiet hero.
