Community cleans Florida Police Station

Florida Police Station gets a much-needed facelift with new lights, toilet seats, and a fresh garden.

Residents and local organisations joined forces on Sunday, June 8, to give the Florida Police Station a much-needed facelift.

The initiative was led by the Florida Community Policing Forum (CPF), in collaboration with the Florida South Resident Association, AfriForum Roodepoort, ADT, and enthusiastic community members.

According to Farhaad Sardiwalla, Florida CPF chairperson, the primary motivation behind the clean-up was to address the water leak that had been causing issues inside and outside the station for far too long.

“The team is working tirelessly to create channels using pipes that redirect the water outside the station, ensuring a safer and more efficient environment.”

The clean-up effort didn’t stop there. The team also installed new light globes, fitted toilet seats, cut grass, pulled weeds, trimmed trees outside the open space, and cleaned around the station.

Farhaad emphasised that this initiative is part of a broader commitment to serving the community, with many more projects planned for the future.

One notable initiative launched during the event is the Adopt a Garden project. According to Farhaad, the CPF is inviting community members to participate by donating flower seeds for the front side of the station and vegetable seeds that will be planted on the premises.

The harvested vegetables will benefit the community, which promotes ownership and cooperation.
