Entrepreneurs unite for growth

Networking event brings together key stakeholders and offers valuable insights for small business success.

Local entrepreneurs, service providers and community members came together on Thursdy, August 21 at Witpoortjie Library for a networking, collaboration and business growth opportunity hosted by Xolani Spogter.

According to Xolani, an entrepreneur and founder of LenoxBiz, he started this initiative in 2019 in response to a clear need for platforms that support and uplift small businesses in the area.

The event brought together key stakeholders, including SARS, the Johannesburg Development Agency, and the Small Enterprise Development and Finance Agency, who delivered informative presentations on their services.

They also offered valuable guidance to business owners on funding, compliance and financial management through an engaging question and answer session.

Xolani said the aim was to bring together businesses to connect, grow, collaborate and have the necessary information for their hustle.

“Such events are very important because firstly, we need businesses, and secondly, there are people opening businesses, but they are failing. Having these information sessions helps those who want to start and those who want to improve,” he said.

He also shared tips that local businesses can use to help them grow:

1. Strengthen your online presence
Create a Google Business Profile so customers can easily find your location, hours, and reviews. Use social media (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok) to share updates, promotions, and behind-the-scenes content.

2. Build strong community relationships
Partner with schools, churches, and local events to increase visibility. Sponsor small community initiatives to create goodwill and trust.

3. Leverage customer loyalty
Offer loyalty programmes (points, discounts, or “buy 5 get 1 free” cards). Encourage happy customers to leave reviews and refer others.

4. Diversify marketing channels
Don’t rely only on word-of-mouth – combine flyers, WhatsApp group alerts, radio ads, and social media marketing. Run small promotions during peak times (holidays, paydays, or local events).

5. Improve customer experience
Provide excellent service and after-sales support.
