A celebration of women’s wellness in style

Besides the elegance, women walked away with secrets to lasting wellness.

Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital recently hosted its annual Women’s Wellness High Tea at the elegant Eagle Canyon Golf Estate – an afternoon filled with inspiration, self-care and style.

Guests were warmly welcomed on Saturday, August 30, by marketing and communications manager Natasha Griffin, before being treated to a line-up of dynamic speakers who shared their expertise and personal journeys.

Chef and cookbook author Zanele van Zyl charmed the audience with her story of leaving the IT world to follow her culinary passion. She encouraged women to nurture themselves, reminding everyone that “being a woman is such a beautiful thing”.

Dr Jerisha Kannai, an emergency physician, brought practical advice, highlighting the importance of annual health checks as a way to prevent life-threatening emergencies.

Women’s health was also at the centre of gynaecologist and obstetrician Dr Khomotjo Chitsa’s talk, which covered everything from pap smears and contraception to family planning and menopause management.

Radiologist Dr Mariska McHendrie reinforced the message of proactive health with insights into mammograms, breast ultrasounds, biopsies and bone density scans – all vital tools in detecting issues early.

The conversation then turned to the mind, as counselling psychologist Laken Folster unpacked the impact of social media on body image. She urged women to guard against body shaming and unrealistic beauty standards, while embracing a healthier relationship with their digital lives.

Adding a splash of glamour, personal stylist and image consultant Gregin Veenstra encouraged women to see fashion as an extension of their identity – a way to confidently express who they are.

The event concluded on a celebratory note with lucky draws, where prizes included cookbooks, mammogram vouchers and personal styling sessions. The Best Dressed honour went to the radiant Phuti Mootane, closing off an afternoon that was as uplifting as it was stylish.
