Gender-based violence forum celebrates women who make a difference in the community
The forum wanted to show the women they are being recognised and appreciated.
The Region C Gender-based Violence (GBV) Forum celebrated powerful women making a difference in their community and those who help victims of GBV.
The event was hosted at Westgate Shopping Centre on Thursday, August 21, and the women gathered dressed in striking black and gold attire, creating a sense of unity and solidarity.
The atmosphere was electric, filled with a sense of purpose and collective strength as these trailblazing women came together to uplift and inspire one another.
According to the chairperson of the GBV Forum, Musa Mbatha, they started this forum to deal with issues of gender equality, including violence and femicide. However, they’ve been hosting the women’s day event annually since 2021.
The event honoured 20 remarkable women from the region who are driving community development through their selfless work.
According to Musa, the event recognises women who tirelessly contribute to their communities, often going unappreciated.
“These women help children with homework, run soup kitchens, and support victims of GBV,” he explained.
The honourees received trophies in various categories, including Rising Star, Unmatched Dedication, Community Safety, Teamwork, Outstanding Performance, and Outstanding Service Record.
The selection process involved nominations from the community, followed by interviews and assessments to identify the top 20 women.
Musa emphasised that the recognition is crucial, as these women often feel unappreciated despite their tireless efforts.
He concluded by encouraging women in the community to continue their good work, inspiring positive change in their communities.
