Residents needed to help fight crime

The Honeydew CPF is calling on residents to step forward and join its team of volunteer patrollers in a drive to strengthen safety efforts across the precinct. This comes after the CPF received calls and messages about the volunteer patrollers and how one can join.
According to the Honeydew CPF public relations officer, Michael Steyn, patrollers serve as the “eyes and ears” for police, dedicating their time to patrolling neighbourhoods, reporting suspicious activities, and assisting with logistics when needed.
“Increasing the number of Honeydew CPF volunteer patrollers is a great step toward making our community safer and more secure. More patrollers mean greater visibility and a stronger deterrent to crime. It also helps build a closer-knit, proactive community where residents look out for one another,” Michael expressed.
Patrollers are not law enforcement officials but volunteers who undergo fingerprint checks with SAPS, wear identification badges and uniforms, and use a two-way radio communication system to coordinate patrols effectively. They are expected to comply with all legal and safety requirements while on duty.
Residents living within the Honeydew policing precinct, which stretches (but is not limited to) from Boskruin, Northgate, Weltevreden Park, Allens Nek, Wilgeheuwel, Honeydew, Radiokop, Little Falls, and Ruimsig, interested in volunteering or would like to find out more information can contact Jon Rosenberg on 082 450 2305.
Details about training and the next steps will be shared after the application process has been completed.
“Every set of extra eyes helps,” Michael said.
