Learners bring smiles to seniors
What started as a school project is now touching people's lives.
Weltevreden Park Primary School learners recently brought joy to the elderly residents at Floroma Old Aged Home and Frail Care Centre through the ‘Smile for Seniors’ project.
The event, which happened on Friday, October 3, saw the youngsters delivering boxes filled with essential supplies and treats to the seniors at the residence.
The learners brought joy to the residents of the home by gathering and delivering donations with the assistance of their parents and teachers.

“Projects like this teach the learners that there are many others who are less fortunate than they are and that every little bit helps when it comes to caring for those less fortunate in our community,” said the school’s deputy principal, Leanne Danker, speaking on what these initiatives mean for the learners and what they could learn from them.

The school passed on their thanks to the families and community members who supported the drive. They also expressed that it was heartwarming to see how excited the learners were to participate and how proud they felt knowing they were making a difference.

The project reminded everyone that compassion starts with small gestures and that even young learners can have a big impact in the community when they work together for a good cause.
Through this project, the school hopes to remind everyone that compassion starts with small gestures; you don’t have to do big things to make a difference in other people’s lives. It also taught learners that when they work together for a beneficial cause, they can make a difference in the community.
