Curves Strubens Valley unites with Reach for Recovery to support breast cancer survivors
Curves Strubens Valley gives breast cancer survivors their second chance at feeling whole again.
Curves Strubens Valley is partnering with Reach for Recovery in a heartwarming initiative that goes beyond reps and workouts. It started with a simple idea: What if an all-female gym, where women gather to empower their bodies and minds, could also become a sanctuary of support for breast cancer survivors?
Reach for Recovery recently launched its Ditto Project, which provides silicone breast prostheses to women who have undergone mastectomies but cannot afford reconstruction. In collaboration with Curves Strubens Valley, they have introduced the Bras of Hope Drive – a campaign encouraging members and the community to donate gently used bras in good condition.
Curves Strubens Valley owner, Sue Forde, says the goal is simple yet deeply meaningful: To give each survivor not only a prosthesis but also the dignity of a beautiful, supportive bra that helps her feel whole again.
“The support from our members was overwhelming! Women of all ages came forward, digging through their drawers and closets, bringing in bras once worn with pride and now to be worn with purpose,” says Sue.
The donated bras will be collected and delivered to Reach for Recovery, where they will be carefully cleaned, sorted, and fitted with silicone prostheses matched to each recipient’s skin tone, size, and shape.
“Being an all-female gym, this means so much to us. The support we receive from our members, who wholeheartedly back our initiatives, is the cherry on top. We’ll be running the donation drive throughout the month and encourage the community to get involved, too,” Sue adds.
