Wilro Lions mourn loss of a stalwart
Wilro Lions' long-standing member and past District Governor passes away.
The Lions Club of Wilro Park is mourning the passing of Lillian McClarty, a dedicated and committed member who served for 50 years.
Lillian passed away suddenly on October 4, and she was laid to rest on October 9.
According to club president Sandy van Heerden, Lillian was one of the club’s long-standing members and was also a past District Governor.
“She was a true pillar of the community, and her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched,” said Sandy.

Lillian started at the Lions in 1980, and in 1987, she became a Lioness and formed the Florida Lions Club. Sandy added that Lillian was instrumental in various community projects.
Her dedication to helping those in need earned her the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellow award, the highest recognition for humanitarian service.
Lillian’s community work spanned decades, with involvement in Roodepoort Care of the Aged, Donovan McDonald, Klein Helderkruin, Tornado Park Retirement Homes, Coronation Care Centre and Rainbow Village.
She also co-founded Meals on Wheels from the Florida Town Hall, providing over 380 meals daily.

As District Governor in 2014, Lillian inspired many with her kindness, love, and generosity.
“She was a committed and dedicated member who will be remembered always for her kindness, love and her supply of beautifully knitted jerseys which she made for those in need.
“The club will also remember her love for gardening. She left a legacy of love, and it will live on in the hearts of her family, friends and fellow Lions,” concluded Sandy.
