Police in Roodepoort have urged residents who applied for firearm licenses to contact the police station and check if their licenses have arrived.
According to commander of the Roodepoort Firearms, Liquor, and Second Hand Goods (Flash) unit at Roodepoort Police Station, Warrant Officer Michael Mashele, his office is in possession of about 100 unclaimed firearm licenses, which they are eager to issue to their rightful owners.
“We strive to be as efficient as possible and a part of this is trying to ensure that the licenses get issued in a timely fashion.
“Whenever we receive a license for issuing, the recipient receives an SMS message. Unfortunately, we have had very little response and the licenses are piling up in our office.”
Mashele says the licenses stem from applications made from about October last year to present.
