Steps of strength: Church walks for cancer awareness

The event was aimed at encouraging dialogue around health and faith, and championing the power of community in the fight against cancer.

Enthusiastic members of the African Methodist Episcopal Church’s Richard Allen Young Adult Council (Rayac) gathered early on Saturday, October 25, at the Florida Lake for a 3km walk in support of those battling cancer.

According to presiding elder Reverend Bathusang Motaung, Rayac aims to empower young adults to grow in Christ, lead with purpose, and serve with compassion.

“The walk, under the theme of Steps for Strength, was a meaningful initiative uniting faith and wellness under one purpose: to walk for hope, healing, and awareness,” says Motaung.

According to Renèe Singh, cancer survivor and advocate and founder of Warriors with a Purpose, the walk served as a symbol of endurance, faith, and unity, reminding participants that every step taken in love and solidarity is a step toward healing and restoration.

“It was a time to honour survivors, remember those we’ve lost, and strengthen the community through shared faith and compassion,” she said.
