West Rand motorcycle clubs ride together to brighten Diwali for communities
Various local motorcycle clubs took part in this year's National Diwali Run.
A group of motorcyclists from across the West Rand gathered on Saturday, November 1, to make a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most.
Through their heartfelt initiative, the National Diwali Run, they aimed to spread the spirit of Diwali-celebrated for its message of love, light, and prosperity, to people from all walks of life in disadvantaged communities.
Under the banner of “United as One,” bikers from groups and clubs, including Family That Rides SMC, Padres, Lawless Crew, and Iron Clad, came together with a shared goal: To make Diwali memorable not only for those celebrating but also for individuals from diverse backgrounds in underprivileged communities.

Although the weather was gloomy, nothing could stop them from their mission of giving back to the community.
Their journey took them across the West Rand, delivering food hampers filled to the brim and spreading joy to those in need.
The ride started at Christ the King Anglican Church in Sophiatown, then proceeded to St Gabriel’s Anglican Church in Florida Park, where the parcels were warmly received with great smiles.
Soraya Niekerk from St Gabriel’s said the parcels would go a long way, as they have an active outreach that feeds 200 community members every Saturday.
“We’ve been doing this for the past seven years, and we believe these parcels will make a difference,” she said.
The bikers then proceeded to KCCC in Florida Park, a community-based rehabilitation centre that tackles drug addiction and poverty.

Next, they visited the Institute of Grace in Discovery, a shelter for women struggling with drug abuse. Their final stop was with individual families in Krugersdorp, where smiles and gratitude filled the air.
“We started this initiative in 2019, and it was launched in 2022 in collaboration with several other motorcycle clubs from across the country. Our goal is to make a positive impact on families facing financial challenges by providing them with the means to care for their loved ones during this festive season,” said director and public relations officer of the institute, Riana Burgess.

“The hampers are contributions from the bikers and corporate sponsors. It is our mission to make Diwali memorable not only for disadvantaged communities but also for schools, temples, churches, and old age homes,” she added.
Together, they lit up the lives of many, reminding us all that even small acts of kindness have the power to shine brightly in the darkness.
