Three incidents on N1 bring traffic to a standstill

Authorities are on the N1 at Gordon Road and Maraisburg as three incidents wreaked havoc on traffic.

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) issued a traffic advisory today, November 12, warning motorists of a potentially serious situation unfolding on the N1 South just after the Maraisburg off-ramp.

According to the report, a tanker loaded with paraffin was involved in a crash. It was leaking diesel onto the road.

“All lanes on the N1 South after Albertina Sisulu Road are currently closed off. Traffic is being diverted at Albertina Sisulu Road,” says JMPD spokesperson Superintendent Xolani Fihla.

“Law enforcement officials are on the scene and emergency services are en route to manage the situation and clear the area.”

Fihla warned that motorists should expect heavy delays on alternative routes as well.

The Roodepoort Record has since received information regarding another two incidents on the N1 at Gordon Road, as well as further past the Maraisburg off-ramp.

According to a source on the scene, the paraffin truck has already been cleared, and authorities are now dealing with the other two incidents.
