SSOP announces giant community day event

SSOP has announced their first ever annual Community Day.

Sector Specialised Operations Patrollers (SSOP) have announced their first annual Community Day, set to take place on December 6 on Laerskool Helderkruin’s sports fields.

According to chairperson Leon Marinus, the event aims to bring the community together.

“We have a huge day planned,” he says. “With more than 80 market stalls, including 12 food stalls, a whole host of shows and exhibitions, a kids’ zone, including a soft play area for the smaller children, we plan to make this one of the biggest annual events on the local calendar.”

Marinus adds that community safety and law enforcement will feature prominently at the event.

“We are trying to spread awareness among the community regarding all the different community safety initiatives undertaken in our neighbourhoods.

“As part of this effort, all our partners in law enforcement, private security, fire services, and emergency response management will be out in force educating the public about what they do and the extent of their capabilities.

“We will have emergency response teams doing demonstrations and training sessions on CPR and other emergency procedures, firemen showing off their hoses, and much more.”

Leon adds that the various security companies will also be on hand to educate the public on what is involved in keeping communities safe.

“The South African Police Service will also have a huge showing, with various stalls showing off their different divisions.”

One of the events Leon is most excited about is the dog show.

“The real stars of the show are bound to be the dogs from a local dog training provider who will astound people with their search and rescue capabilities, and lots more.”

Marinus adds that in the true spirit of community, SSOP did not charge a cent to vendors for their stalls.

“We were quite selective when choosing exhibitors,” he adds. “The idea is to have as many unique stalls as possible. We’ve ensured that no two stalls sell the same products.”

Of course, no community day would be complete without entertainment. The event will also feature live music throughout the day.

The SSOP Community Day will take place between 10:00 and 16:00.
