Police station cleaner best in Gauteng

The Florida Police Station's cleaner took top honours at the prestigious competition.

Florida Police Station’s sole cleaner has her hands full every day ensuring the customer service centre, kitchens, and more than 30 offices are meticulously cleaned, and judging by her performance at the recent SAPS Gauteng Excellence Awards, the station is lucky to have her.

Smakaleng Elizabeth Motebe won one of the categories in the Admin Employee of the Year award for her dedication to her duties.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Sipho Dlamini, Motebe is indispensable in her role at the police station.

“She is very meticulous,” says Dlamini, and adds, “Every one of the 30 offices gets a thorough clean every day. The customer service centre, kitchen and bathrooms are always perfectly clean, and she often stays late on busy days to ensure that the public areas remain presentable.”

Dlamini adds that Motebe also shows great dedication in her planning and administrative duties, always ensuring that cleaning materials are in ample supply.

“Though she is not directly involved in crime prevention, her work is critical for the effective and efficient functioning of the police station.”
