CPF honours volunteers

The day showed that their dedication, willingness to serve, effort, and giving up their time to ensure the residents are protected and receive the support they need do not go unnoticed.

The Honeydew CPF hosted an appreciation lunch at Rumours Lounge yesterday, November 23, where families, the police, the victim support team and CPF patrollers came together for a relaxed afternoon before the festive season rush begins.

“It was a wonderful afternoon of connecting, relaxing, and enjoying each other’s company without the usual need to stay alert. It also gave us the chance to meet the families who support our patrollers and victim support members and make it possible for them to do what they do,” said the Honeydew CPF public relations officer, Michael Steyn.

He also added that the event was an important reminder of how much the volunteers contribute throughout the year.

“Our patrollers and victim support members give so much of their time to keep this community safe. Today was about honouring their dedication and thanking the families who stand behind them,” he said.

A special tribute was paid to the three dedicated members of the victim support team, Hanlee Fourie, Pamela Butterworth, and Vera Olivato Smith, who spend many hours assisting victims of crime with compassion and strength.

“They are the steady presence and comforting support during some of the toughest moments,” said Michael.

The CPF also acknowledged the top patrollers of the year, who collectively completed an impressive 655 patrol hours while helping safeguard the neighbourhoods. Wayne Tippet received the top patroller award, followed by Robert Rutherford in second place and Tony Couto da Silva in third.

“We want to thank every patroller who gives their time on the road, keeping watch over the community and offering help wherever they can. Your commitment is deeply appreciated,” Michael said while expressing gratitude to all patrollers for their ongoing commitment to keeping the community safe.

Families were thanked for the role they play in allowing their loved ones to volunteer. The CPF expressed deep gratitude to the spouses and relatives who support these community protectors week after week. Michael also passed on gratitude to Rumours Lounge for providing the venue to them at no cost, making the day memorable.
