FBW bids farewell to 2025

The FBW used its last meeting of the year to pay tribute to, and thank those that support their efforts.

Florida Block Watch (FBW) held its final meeting for 2025 at Hoërskool Florida on Tuesday, November 18.

The hall was packed with residents, block watch members, representatives from local security companies, guests from other community forums, and local businesses.

FBW chairperson John Kirsten opened proceedings as usual with a minute of silent prayer before launching into the programme for the evening, thanking residents and sponsors alike for their support throughout the year.

Special mention was made of the local security companies and their collaborative and individual efforts to keep Florida safe.

Kirsten updated the community on the various ongoing projects of the FBW and the progress made in 2025.

“Our clean-up activities are, of course, ongoing throughout the area, and we’ve recently managed to purchase a new lawnmower and brush cutter to make the job easier.

“We call on residents to get involved in helping to keep our neighbourhood clean and neat. It is really making a difference.”

Kirsten thanked the FBW’s electrical team for their hard work and diligence in safeguarding switching stations and mini-substations throughout the area.

“We have stopped giving keys to City Power to access the electrical infrastructure since they keep losing the keys. These members go out of their way to ensure that contractors get access to the mini-substations and switching stations, often spending hours waiting for them while they are working.”

The meeting concluded with a lively social and a meal.
