Donation to boost eagle conservation

The Black Eagle Project Roodekrans received a welcome boost in the form of a donation.

The Black Eagle Project Roodekrans (BEPR) has issued a special thanks to Sasol Pinehaven and Sasol Oil for a generous donation made recently.

According to BEPR chairperson Gerald Draper, Sasol has been a loyal supporter of the BEPR and its work in protecting the habitat in which the majestic black eagles and numerous other fauna and flora exist in the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden.

“With the support of sponsors such as Sasol, the BEPR, together with like-minded conservation bodies, can make a huge difference.”

The BEPR plays a crucial role in the conservation of the famous pair of black eagles.

In addition to monitoring the eagles and faithfully recording their daily lives, they present numerous talks to schools, old-age pensioners, and other groups on the history of the eagles at the botanical garden and their important role in the local ecosystem.

“This donation will go a long way in helping us keep up our work of monitoring and protecting the eagles for future generations.”

Draper adds that BEPR works closely with other conservation groups.

“While we focus on the black eagles, our conservation partners ensure the ongoing protection of natural areas and fauna and flora throughout the region.

BEPR monitors are deployed in the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden every Tuesday, as well as on most Saturdays.

“We invite the public to come and visit with us,” says Draper.

“They can learn more about these beautiful animals and even see them up close through our powerful lenses.”
