Fire station introduces commander
Priscilla Dabane has over 30 years of experience in role.
Hodgson Fire Station 21 is proud to introduce their Station Commander, Priscilla Dabane, who boasts over 30 years of experience in the role.
Dabane is a dedicated leader with expertise in fire, rescue, and medical emergency services, committed to serving Roodepoort and the surrounding areas.
Sharing with the Roodepoort Record, Dabane revealed she started her journey in 1995 as a firefighter at Sandton Fire Station (under Sandton Municipality before being incorporated into the City of Johannesburg), breaking barriers as the first female and person of colour to attain the role.
She’s since held multiple roles, including Platoon Commander, Quality Assurance, and Operations Station Commander.
In January 2025, she joined the Hodgson Fire Station and is currently managing 43 staff members.
“My passion lies in helping people in the community and ensuring that they are safe.
“We have paramedics and firefighters responding everywhere, including Tshepisong, Leratong Village, Durban Deep, and all the way to Ruimsig.
“Most of the cases in Roodepoort are motor vehicle accidents. We urge motorists to be vigilant on the road,” she said.
She advised young firefighters starting in the role by saying, “Know that it’s a calling, and you need to go an extra mile and be willing to take that risk.”
