Valentine’s Day run brings hearts together at Ruimsig

The atmosphere on the route said it all as the athletes turned an ordinary run into a shared love experience.

Hundreds of runners and walkers woke up early on Valentine’s Day to take part in a special parkrun event that celebrated fitness, friendship and a bit of love at the Ruimsig Athletics Stadium.

Almost 460 participants lined up at the start, many wearing red, pink or heart-themed outfits to mark the day. Couples could be seen walking hand in hand before the run began, and friends and families also enjoyed the morning together as they tackled the route.

As always, the event was free and open to everyone, from first-time participants to regular runners chasing personal bests. Volunteers were out in full force, cheering people on and helping to make sure the morning ran smoothly. The volunteers helped to ensure everything went smoothly and cheered on everyone as they approached the finish line.

There were a lot of photos and smiles at the finish line, as everyone wanted to keep a memory of the day and show that the day was more about spending quality time with loved ones while doing something healthy than about chasing after speed.
