Parkrunner celebrates 100th volunteering milestone
“Life is for living so get out there and enjoy every moment.”
June Williams (91) celebrated her 100th parkrun volunteering milestone on Saturday, February 7, while providing this service to fellow parkrunners at Ruimsig parkrun.
June started her parkrun journey in July 2019 after her friend, Gabby Hugli, who recently celebrated her 80th birthday, invited her to join the initiative. Now she no longer runs but shows up to render her services to others.
June’s family celebrated this milestone with her in style. Her daughter, Karin Williams, gave park runners a cupcake after their runs. June encourages young and old to join and continue running despite the challenges they may encounter on the journey.
“Parkrun is for everyone, no matter your age or ability. Come along and have fun, and you will meet the most wonderful people along the way,” said June.
June, with the help of her grandson, managed to provide service to more than 500 walkers, joggers and runners by handing out finish tokens.
“Life is for living so get out there and enjoy every moment,” she concluded.
