Four suspects’ alleged Gauteng burglary spree halted

A multidisciplinary team apprehends suspects linked to Pretoria and West Rand burglary incidents.

A silver Mercedes-Benz allegedly linked to a string of burglaries across Gauteng has been seized and four suspects arrested following a co-ordinated multidisciplinary operation on Wednesday, February 18.

According to Help 24 CEO Sheldon Grobler, the vehicle had been implicated in multiple residential burglaries throughout the province. On the morning of 18 February, the same vehicle was reportedly involved in another house break-in in Centurion, prompting an immediate response from private security and law enforcement agencies.

A multidisciplinary team that consists of Help24 Secure TRU, Fidelity ADT, Fidelity SIU, Fidelity FBIC, Nightguard Security, MonitorNet, Maganyeni Security, and Honeydew police was deployed to trace and apprehend the suspects. Through co-ordinated intelligence sharing networks, the vehicle was tracked to the Strubens Valley.

“The teams started to saturate the area as the suspects were busy scouting for their next house to hit. Soon after, the members had eyes on the suspects and a tactical takedown was executed,” said Grobler.

Items seized during the operation:

• One vehicle confirmed as sought in connection with an undisclosed police case, it was fitted with false number plates
• Stolen household items
• Housebreaking equipment/ tools

Preliminary investigations have linked both the suspects and the vehicle to multiple housebreaking cases in Pretoria and the West Rand, including a recent incident in the Bergbron area.

Grobler confirmed to the Roodepoort Northsider that the suspects remain in custody as investigations continue, and further charges may be added as additional cases are linked.

He commends the collaborative effort, stating that strong partnerships between private security companies and police remain critical in combating organised residential crime across the province.

Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to their nearest security provider or police station.
