Joint operation leads to recovery of stolen motorcycles

Tactical teams worked together to recover stripped motorcycles in Roodepoort.

A co-ordinated security operation has led to the recovery of four stolen motorcycles and the disruption of an alleged chop shop operating in Roodepoort on February 26.

According to EC Security area manager Marthinus Weiss, they launched an investigation following the theft of a motorcycle in Randpark Ridge. Acting on information gathered during the investigation, EC Security, in collaboration with Deka Specialised Services, traced the stolen motorcycle to a property in Roodepoort.

A joint operation was subsequently conducted, and upon their arrival, Weiss said they contacted the police, the K9 Unit and Crime Intelligence to conduct further investigation.

“During the search of the premises, the original stolen motorcycle was successfully recovered. In addition, three other stolen motorcycles were discovered on site. The motorcycles were found in various stages of disassembly, indicating that the property was being used as a dismantling operation,” he added.

Authorities also recovered a large quantity of motorcycle components, including frames, wheels, suspension systems and engines. Several parts had already been packaged and concealed, suggesting they were being prepared for illegal distribution, potentially including cross-border trade.

All recovered motorcycles and parts were secured for further processing and investigation. Police have confirmed that inquiries are ongoing to identify those responsible and to determine the full extent of the criminal network involved.

Weiss commended all teams involved for their professionalism, coordination and dedication in ensuring the safety and security of the community.

No arrests have been made so far, and the matter is still under investigation.
