Law enforcement units host successful awareness campaign

The youngsters were educated on how law enforcement officers keep communities safe.

Learners at Skye College were introduced to the work of local law enforcement agencies during an educational visit aimed at promoting safety awareness among young people last week.

Various police units, including the K9 Unit, Search and Rescue, officers from Honeydew Police Station, the Drone Unit and the Gauteng Reservist Unit, took part. Officers hosted educational sessions and interactive demonstrations, showing learners how each unit contributes to community safety.

Michael Steyn, public relations officer for the Honeydew Community Policing Forum (CPF), said the event created an opportunity to educate children about the role of law enforcement from an early age.

“It was an inspiring initiative focused on teaching our younger generation about the important work being done to keep our communities safe,” he said.

Members presented interactive displays that kept learners engaged. Sessions were structured according to age group to ensure the information was appropriate and easy to understand. Learners interacted directly with officers through hands-on activities, gaining insight into how the various units operate.

The programme also included a session by Emma van der Walt from Brave to Love, a non-profit organisation that combats human trafficking and supports victims of the sex industry. Her presentation added an awareness component to the day’s activities.

Steyn added that the CPF remains committed to initiatives that support and uplift young people.

“As Honeydew CPF, we are always proud to be part of initiatives that empower, educate and uplift our community, especially when it comes to investing in our youth. Together, we build a safer, stronger future,” he said.
