Northside power restoration delayed
Some residents have been without electricity for more than 24 hours, while others have reported on and off restoration.
Residents in Wilgeheuwel, Ruimsig and Radiokop have been without electricity since Thursday, as an ongoing outage continues to disrupt daily life across parts of Roodepoort.
According to City Power Johannesburg, the outage is linked to a cable fault affecting the Roodepoort supply area. Technical teams identified the first fault on Friday morning and are preparing to begin repairs once the necessary materials arrive on site.
The utility said the outage is being treated as a priority, with additional resources deployed to speed up restoration. However, multiple faults on the network have made it difficult to redirect supply and restore power to affected areas.

City Power has also cited cable theft, vandalism and ageing infrastructure as ongoing challenges placing strain on the network, particularly in high-demand areas.
“No estimated time for restoration can be confirmed due to the complexity of the faults. City Power will continue to provide updates as progress is made,” said the entity’s spokesperson, Isaac Mangena.
For many residents, the prolonged outage has disrupted work, schooling and daily household activities, with frustration growing as the blackout continues into another day.
