Honeydew Scouts hosts successful fundraiser

The bad weather made the day start in uncertainty, but later turned into a day filled with smiles, excitement, and memories.

Despite rainy weather on Human Rights Day, the 1st Honeydew Scouts Group enjoyed a successful Carnival Day and Movie Night. Families and community members also came out to support the fundraiser.

The event, which was the group’s second fundraising initiative, raised close to R6 000. According to one of the organisers, Odette Redelinghuys, the funds will help the Scouts purchase equipment and cover participation costs for the upcoming Kon-Tiki event in May.

Both organisers, Odette and Brian Bridle, said they were encouraged by the support shown by parents and the surrounding community, especially given the weather.

“Seeing the number of people that came out to support us was really heartwarming. It was a testament to the support our community continues to give us,” said Odette.

The fundraiser followed on from the group’s first event in 2025, when they hosted a quiz day. This year, the organisers decided to grow the idea by adding a movie night and a show to the programme. The day offered a mix of fun for people of all ages, with games, treats and activities for children, before families settled in for the evening movie experience.

Brian said one of the standout moments for him was seeing how involved both the children and parents were throughout the day.

“Seeing the kids playing around and having fun, even through the rain, was really special. Parents also took part in the games and competed against each other, and you could tell they were enjoying themselves too,” he said.

Although the organisers had hoped for sunny skies, they said the event still met their expectations.

“We had no idea what to expect until we saw people starting to come in, and we were grateful to see the community still come out in the rain to support the fundraiser,” Brian said.

Brian and Odette thanked everyone who played a part in making the day possible, including Gladiator Inflatables, which sponsored a jumping castle for the children.

With the fundraiser now behind them, the team will now focus on completing the necessary processes and equipment needed for the Scouts’ rafting event.
