Masechaba Foundation for Hope celebrates one year of transforming lives

A local foundation celebrate a year of helping vulnerable communities in Roodepoort and surrounding areas.

The Masechaba Foundation for Hope is marking a significant milestone as it celebrates one year of dedicated service to vulnerable communities.

The foundation, established on the vision of restoring dignity and creating lasting change, has quickly become a beacon of hope for many facing hardship.

According to one of the founders, Betty Lekgetho, the foundation was established out of a deep passion for community upliftment. The foundation set out to address the growing needs of underserved individuals, particularly the homeless and families experiencing financial and social challenges. Over the past year, this vision has translated into consistent outreach efforts and tangible impact on the ground.

“Our greatest achievement has been maintaining consistency in our outreach efforts while witnessing real transformation in the lives of those we support. Seeing individuals regain stability and begin rebuilding their lives has been incredibly rewarding,” she said.

Despite its success, the journey has not been without challenges. Operating as a largely self-funded organisation, the foundation has had to navigate financial constraints while sustaining its programmes. This has required resilience, creativity, and a strong commitment to its mission.

Over the past year, the foundation has also experienced notable growth. What began as a single Sunday feeding initiative has expanded to include an additional weekday programme through strategic partnerships. A major milestone in its development is its recent approval as a Cisco Academy, which will enable the organisation to introduce skills development programmes aimed at empowering individuals with valuable, marketable skills.

Partnerships have played a crucial role in supporting the foundation’s work. Contributions from organisations such as Shoprite and Boxer, particularly through food vouchers, have significantly enhanced its ability to serve more people and extend its reach.

The foundation has ambitious plans for its second year. Key priorities include securing sustainable sponsorships, expanding feeding programmes, and launching its skills development academy.

“We aim to secure sustainable sponsorships, expand our feeding programmes to reach more people more frequently, and successfully launch our skills development academy. Our primary goal is to move beyond immediate relief and focus on long-term empowerment and self-sufficiency,” she added.

As the Masechaba Foundation for Hope celebrates this important anniversary, its impact remains significant to many and not just in the number of people served, but in the lives changed and the renewed sense of hope within the communities it supports.
