Sector 2 CPF elections announced
Police in Florida have announced a new date for the sector's election.
Station commander of the Florida Police Station, Colonel Frans Marweshe, in a highly unprecedented move, has announced that the Florida Sector 2 CPF elections will take place on May 13 at the Donovan McDonald Retirement Centre.
The facilitation of CPF elections usually falls under the jurisdiction of the Department of Community Safety and not the police.
There have been a number of unsuccessful attempts at holding Sector 2 elections for more than a year.
The last election was disrupted and ultimately halted by disgruntled residents of the Jerusalema informal settlement, who refused to accept the defeat of their preferred candidate for the deputy chairperson position.

To date, the only elected positions are those of chairperson and deputy chairperson. There has since been no indication from the Department of Community Safety whether results for these positions will stand in the upcoming election.
A representative from the department, Thabo Thipe, confirmed the upcoming sector election, adding that a decision has not yet been made whether the positions already voted for will stand, or if the election will be undertaken afresh.
He added that, though there are some concerns regarding the venue, a plan is being hatched to provide transportation for representatives from Jerusalema to the venue.
“Community members indicated to us that the Dragon Boat Club is not an ideal venue for the elections, thus it was decided that the hall at Donovan McDonald would be more suitable,” he says, adding that a meeting is set to be held with representatives from the various community forums and block watches, where the election will be discussed and arrangements finalised in the run-up to the election.
Election for the CPF executive will follow on May 16, where the elected officials from the three sectors under the Florida policing precinct will elect the main CPF executive committee.
