Florida Sector 2 CPF elections to go ahead despite obstacles

Police are adamant that Sector 2 and CPF executive committee elections go ahead.

CPF elections for Florida Sector 2 are already off to a bad start as a consultation meeting between CPF, police, community safety, and local forum and block watch representatives was cancelled on Friday, May 8, for the third time.

Florida police’s Station Commander, Colonel Frans Marweshe, announced last week that the elections were to be held on May 13, and CPF executive committee elections on May 16, both at Donovan McDonald Retirement Centre.

When the Roodepoort Record asked the current CPF chairperson, Farhaad Sardiwalla, about the elections last week, he was not aware of anything.

Sector 2 of Florida CPF has been mired in controversy for more than a year now, with numerous elections cancelled due to disruptions.

Elections have been stopped due to the correct processes not being followed, voting discrepancies, arguments about the viability of candidates, and discord over specific candidates losing.

The Record enquired from the department’s representative, Thabo Thipe, about the latest cancelled consultation meeting and was told it was due to an electricity outage.

Thipe insisted that consultations will be held and the election will continue as planned.

Police are also determined to push the election forward, and despite the short notice, say the election is moving forward.

The Record has received word from a police source that they have received strict instructions to make sure the CPF structure is formed and finalised.

The source said that should anyone disrupt the election, they will be escorted out of the hall, and the election will go ahead without them.
