CPF: Sector 2 election concluded

After more than a year of failed attempts, Florida Sector 2 CPF eventually has a new committee in place.

After more than a year of failed attempts, Sector 2 of the Florida Community Policing Forum (CPF) has finally elected a new committee, although concerns remain over poor attendance and limited representation at the meeting.

The election was held at the Donovan McDonald Retirement Centre on Thursday, May 14. Several community forums were not represented at the meeting.

An internal decision was made to disregard the previously filled chairperson and deputy chairperson positions and restart the election process from scratch. The decision was accepted unopposed.

The newly elected Sector 2 committee consists of Riaz Jogee as chairperson and Redah Noordien as deputy chairperson.

Salwaa Begg was elected secretary, while Roberto Mufamadi was appointed deputy secretary. Fayrosa Wadvalla will serve as public relations officer.

The committee will also include five additional members who were not elected to specific portfolios, but who will represent various areas within Sector 2.

According to Thabo Thipe, the successful conclusion of the Sector 2 election means committees have now been established for all three sectors within the Florida policing precinct.

All that remains is the appointment of an executive committee to oversee the Florida CPF.

The Florida CPF executive committee election, originally scheduled for Saturday, May 16, was cancelled on the day and has been rescheduled for Wednesday, May 20.

Only committee members from the various sectors will participate in the voting process for executive positions, including chairperson, deputy chairperson, secretary, deputy secretary, treasurer and public relations officer.

The election will take place at Rainbow FM’s boardroom on the corner of Goldman and Sauer streets at 18:00.
