Foundation launches school shoe drive for Princess Primary learners

A Weltevreden Park foundation is asking for assistance to restore hope for underprivileged learners at Princess Primary School.

The Masechaba Foundation has launched its first school shoe donation campaign, aiming to provide 120 pairs of school shoes to learners from underprivileged families at Princess Primary School.

An initiative with a long-term impact

According to foundation co-founder Betty Lekgetho, the initiative marks the beginning of what the organisation hopes will become a long-term partnership with the school, creating opportunities to support vulnerable children and enhance their educational experience.

“The school has agreed to identify learners who are most in need of assistance. Once the number of donated pairs has been confirmed, the school will provide a list of shoe sizes to ensure that each beneficiary receives a properly fitting pair,” said Betty.

To maximise the impact of donations and keep costs low, the foundation has partnered with a local manufacturer that produces school shoes at a cost of R49 per pair. As a result, the foundation is appealing for financial contributions rather than physical shoe donations.

“We are appealing to individuals, businesses and community members to support this initiative through monetary donations. Every contribution will help us reach our goal of providing quality school shoes to learners who need them most,” she said.

Betty added that once the fundraising target has been reached and the shoes have been manufactured, the foundation will work with the school to arrange an official handover ceremony.

Foundation’s commitment

The foundation has committed to providing detailed reports on all funds raised and how they are utilised throughout the campaign. As a Section 18A-approved organisation, it can also issue Section 18A tax certificates for qualifying donations, offering tax benefits to eligible donors.

“Masechaba hopes not only to provide essential school footwear to deserving learners, but also to lay the foundation for a meaningful and lasting partnership with Princess Primary School that can benefit even more children in the future,” Betty concluded.
