Arthur Matthews Primary learner impressive at Provincial Science Expo

Good learning is built on positive relationships with clear values, exciting experiences and behaviours that bring these to life.

Giovanni Mackensie from Arthur Matthews Primary School participated in the Gauteng Provincial Science Fair at Edenglen Primary School on September 10.

The 11-year-old Fleurhof resident represented his school and the West Rand together with two other children at the Provincial Science Expo.

“We are extremely proud of him; the learnings and experience he had will be a growing experience in his life,” Giovanni’s Natural Science teacher Frans Blignaut said.

After consulting with the provincial coordinator for Natural Science, Blignaut nominated Giovanni as a reward for always being creative and submitting exceptional practical tasks.

His model was named Light-up-bag, an idea that came after a discussion with his mother who could not find her bag in a dark taxi as well as the items in her bag.

A solution was found and Giovanni’s family then started the project to add a solar-powered light in the bag.

“As the school we are proud that he participated and thankful that he kept our banner flying high. We as educators and school are always looking for opportunities to enable and grow our learners,” said Blignaut.
