Discovery Primary announces 2026 head leaders
The prefects play an important role is guiding and assisting with multiple duties at the school.
Discovery Primary School announced their head leaders for the 2026 academic year.
Shelby Petersen was announced as the head girl and will be supported by deputy head girl Lyro Naidoo.
On the boy’s side, Oarabile Montshiwa is the head boy with the support of deputy head boy Sihle Moloi.
Principal Raymond Peters said the learners all have impressive qualities, noting that each possesses strong leadership skills and is well-rounded, excelling not only in academics but also in sports and other extracurricular activities.
“Every leader has truly earned their place,” he said proudly. “Identified as standouts since lower grades, they all took the initiative to apply for this position, impressed us with their motivation, and aced their interviews with school management – standing tall among 10 shortlisted candidates.”
During an interview with the Roodepoort Record, the newly appointed leaders beamed with excitement, eager to take the reins at their school. With core values of Be Responsible, Be Safe, and Be Respectful guiding them, they’re ready to make their mark.

Shelby couldn’t contain her joy, saying, “When my name was called, I was overjoyed and couldn’t believe it because all the candidates were amazing, but I’m thrilled to lead this incredible school, unite our community, and make the world a better place.”
Oarabile shared the same sentiments, saying he cannot wait to help teachers, discipline learners, and guide them towards the right direction.
“I have always wanted to be a leader, and I worked for this position by showcasing leadership skills. I’m looking forward to working on the behaviour of the school, not that it’s bad, but it could be better,” said Lyro.
Sihle concluded by saying he is excited for the opportunity, and his goal is to instil positivity among the learners and create an environment where doing good is normal.
