Culembeeck learners receive inspiration at Career Day
Career Day encouraged the learners to dream big.
Grade Seven learners at Laerskool Culembeeck Primary gained valuable insights into various career paths during a successful career day on September 18.
The event brought together guest speakers from different professions, including the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), accounting, media and Emergency Management Services (EMS).

Adding to the excitement, learners dressed up as representatives of their aspiring careers, turning the school into a colourful display of the professions they hope to pursue one day.
The day was not only focused on career choices, but also aimed to motivate learners to believe in themselves, pursue their dreams and understand that there are different pathways to achieving their goals.

The programme started with former Culembeeck head girl and current BCom Accounting student Matshidiso Mofokeng sharing her experiences with the learners and explaining the different career opportunities available within the accounting field.
Major (Dr) Tshepang Makhetha-Lefatso also addressed the learners, introducing them to the various career opportunities within the SANDF.
Lefatso spoke about what inspired her to pursue a career in the military and encouraged the learners to explore their interests. She also highlighted the importance of having a side hustle and developing additional skills.
Journalism and emergency services
The Roodepoort Record also spoke to the learners about journalism and what it takes to work in the media industry.
“I explained the different career paths that can be pursued with a journalism qualification and gave the learners insight into the realities of working as a journalist,” said journalist Nkosephayo Vilakazi.
EMS also formed part of the programme, giving learners a practical demonstration and showcasing its fire engines. The learners were given an opportunity to learn more about the work of emergency personnel and the different career paths available in emergency services.
During the programme, learners also had presentations by guest speakers and teachers about their career of choice.

Preparing for the future
Head of Department and Grade Seven Life Orientation teacher Aletta Goba said the career day was aimed at helping learners make informed decisions about their futures.
“The career day dress-up is to encourage and motivate learners to have an understanding of different career fields, subject choice and to motivate learners to be able to have a choice in their career paths,” said Goba.
The event provided the Grade Seven learners with an opportunity to see beyond the classroom and begin considering the subjects, skills and career choices that could shape their futures.
