Roodies Speech Choir earns outstanding 99% at Teatro Arti Eisteddfod

Three learners represented the school's Speech Choir with an exceptional performance, securing a position mark of 99%.

Hoërskool Roodepoort is celebrating a remarkable achievement after its Speech Choir earned an outstanding position mark of 99% at the Teatro Arti Eisteddfod.

The competition took place at Edenglen High School from July 31 to August 1, and three learners – Talique Cannel, Achelle Moagi and Eliana Menegan – represented the school’s experimental work group, also known as the Speech Choir, where they impressed the adjudicators with their polished and expressive performance.

The choir specialises in choral speaking, where participants recite poems and literary works in unison rather than singing. Performances are carefully co-ordinated, with different voice parts working together to bring each piece to life through expression, rhythm and teamwork.

The school’s marketing officer, Aletheia Louw, congratulated the learners on their achievement, describing the result as a proud moment for the Hoërskool Roodepoort community.

“They have truly done an amazing job. This is an amazing achievement for our speech choir group, and we are exceptionally proud of them,” she said.
