Discovery Primary learners shine at Natural Science competition
Discovery Primary learners shine at the district Natural Science fair, with one advancing to the provincial level.
Discovery Primary School’s Grade Six learners have demonstrated their passion for science, with four learners representing the school at the district Natural Science fair on September 11.
The learners’ journey began at circuit level, where 11 learners from the school took part in the competition. Following the circuit-level presentations, four learners were selected to represent the school at district level.
Each learner tackled a different strand of the Natural Science curriculum. Riley Waldman explored Planet Earth and Beyond, Catalina Glass focused on Matter and Materials, Lesego Morailane presented on Energy and Change, while Paton Gordon focused on Life and Living.
Riley delivered a winning presentation, securing first position in the Planet Earth and Beyond category. His achievement also earned him a place at the provincial level, where he will represent the district.
Paton also achieved an impressive result, finishing in second position for her Life and Living presentation.
Natural Science Head of Department and teacher Sthembile Ngubeni said the learners had limited time to prepare for the district competition but still managed to deliver outstanding presentations.
“We had a short time to prepare for the district level, but my learners performed exceptionally well,” said Sthembile.
She said the learners’ achievements were also made possible through the support they received from their families.
“We are also grateful to the parents for the support that they offered us,” she said.
The results reflect the learners’ commitment to exploring scientific concepts beyond the classroom, while Riley’s progression to the provincial competition gives Discovery Primary another opportunity to showcase its young scientific talent.
