The classic story, isn’t it?

A resident tells fellow residents to take responsibility of their roads and driving.

I always have a good smile at letters like this (Does JMPD have the Authority?, 11 July 2013).

It is the classic old story that we see from a CPF perspective.

Residents complain about speeding and dangerous situations on a certain road. However, the moment action is delivered by the relevant department there is an outcry?

(Perhaps because the resident had to drop their make up and spill their coffee when they hit the brakes to avoid the speeding fine?)

Residents — please realise that it is up to you to stop the problems.

YOU are the ones speeding, YOU are the ones overtaking dangerously, YOU are the ones not being courteous to your fellow motorists.

Please don’t look for loopholes to get out of your speeding fines.

Please note that this is not in response to this particular letter but to complaining residents in general.

Do not throw stones if we are all living in glass houses.

Rather smile and wave at the JMPD officer reminding your offending neighbours to slow down.

Kindly note that this letter was sent through by Caleb Finn of the Florida Community Policing Forum (CPF). —Mathilde Myburgh, journalist.
