I would like to highly commend two members of Roodepoort Police Station – Warrant Officer Harry Myburgh and Sergeant Leandra Botha.
A bogus charge was laid against me but these two officers had to execute their duties and arrest me. On Tuesday 30 January I was shocked when they, in plain clothes, arrived at my workplace to arrest me. I was shaking and, although male, close to tears. They handled the affair in a great way and with absolute discretion. They spoke to my understanding manager and said they would not handcuff me. They took me to their unmarked vehicle and en route stopped at a café. To my surprise they came back and handed me a cold drink saying, “You need this; we can see you are shocked”. On the way to the police station they made jokes and put me at absolute ease. At the station they gave me two more cold drinks and allowed me to smoke a few cigarettes before taking me to the cells. Although I had to spend the night in the cells their professional and friendly demeanour went a long way. Thank you officers, I hope the rest of the station takes a page from your book, and that next time we meet under different circumstances.
Kind regards, Anonymous.
