Why hamper service delivery for your community?

Anonymous from Honeydew writes:

The City of Johannesburg is making every possible effort to deliver humane services to the people, but it concerns me when the very same people tamper with the services intended to improve their lives.

Where is the common sense when you invade land that has been set aside to benefit you and your community?

I’m sure you already know that I’m referring to the action by law enforcement to demolish illegal shacks and stands on a portion of land in Zandspruit recently.

The people know that erecting those structures is illegal, but what conscience do they have, even after being informed about services coming to that piece of ground?

It is high time now for officials to elect residents to act as patrollers in the communities that are deemed to be hot spots for land invasion. This initiative would result in a swift response by law enforcement to halt the scourge.

The responsibility for preventing land invasions should start at community level, because they are the residents who wish to see an improvement in terms of infrastructure and services in their communities.
