Freda, the Great Dane, was a beautiful dog

Derek Nash from Florida Park writes:

It was with sorrow that I read your front-page article in the Roodepoort Record of 19 June, titled Big bark now silent, because we lost Freda, my Merle Great Dane earlier this year.

We live in the same street as Kandas did and every time we passed his abode, on foot, or in particular in my bakkie, he and Freda would exchange a deafening cacophony (I like to think it was love speech).

She was a beauty. People would stop their cars in the street just to admire her, which was so heart-warming, as we adopted her from the SPCA Pound. I can?t think why anyone would reject her. She was also a regular patroller for the local Blockwatch, but I could never get her to wear the official jacket and funny hat.

She leaves a hole in our life but at least we gave her a second chance.
