I have been driving through the Princess squatter camp on Albertina Sisulu Road and have noticed over the years how the squatter camp had grown. The squatters fill the storm water drains with rubble to stop water from running down the middle of the camp. Due to the constant water present on the road, several potholes appeared and the road is in such a bad condition that driving in an ordinary vehicle on this road is hazardous.
I suspect that this is the plan by the squatters to stop traffic from moving in this area. I have not noticed one pothole fixed or the road repaired by the Municipality or the JRA, and it is not that the authorities don’t know of this. I see City of Johannesburg, JMPD, City Power and JRA vehicles pass on this road on a daily basis.
Whilst driving one can see the illegal electrical connections made. The connections are unprotected. The wiring is open and not covered. I fear to think what will happen if one of the many children that walk this area die from electrical shock. In my view the municipality can be held responsible for omitting to act, well knowing that a crime is being committed. It appears that the law is not enforced in this area.
