Every time I drive past the taxi rank directly in front of Makro, I am filled with utter disgust at the amount of filth piling up in the area where these taxis park during the day. This area, including where pieces of dirty blanket and a filthy worn-out couch can be seen, is turning into a virtual pigsty.
I believe I am speaking on behalf of all the residents of this area when I state that we have the right to live in a clean and decent environment, and if these taxi drivers and their passengers refuse to respect our right to live in a civilized environment, perhaps they should be relocated to the top of the Pikitup rubbish dump further along Hendrik Potgieter Road. Judging by the amount of filth surrounding the taxi rank, I believe they will feel equally at home there.
Sadly, government is compromised because it is well aware of the power of the taxi industry to seriously harm the economy of the country. So, we have a ‘hands-off’ policy both on the part of JMPD, the police and the government. This is clearly evident from the glaring invisibility of the JMPD in Roodepoort as a microcosm of the country as a whole.
However, for starters, will someone please do something about the filth piling up at the taxi rank in our neighbourhood!
