Second round of Sables Seniors in the bag

Whether by design or chance, results can be unknown to rivals as all scores are written down and placed inside a box in the clubhouse.

The neatly manicured greens of Discovery Bowling Club played host to the second round of the Sables Seniors on Tuesday, 1 September.

The league runs over five weeks and features highly competitive lawn bowls between the premier bowlers of the West Rand. Although they carry the ‘Seniors’ tag, the majority of bowlers have represented their District at various times throughout the over 20 years of Sables’ existence.

Whether by design or chance, results can be unknown to rivals as all scores are written down and placed inside a box in the clubhouse. One result that was available was Discovery Bowling Club chairperson, Frank Webster and partner’s 21–15 loss to Joss Lewis-Williams and Terry van Akker.

Sables is the name given to the District association that includes all the bowling clubs stretching from Honeydew to Randfontein. After these five rounds have run their course, bowlers will double the stakes for the Fours competition scheduled for November.
