All systems go for Weltevreden Park dojo

Palm Court Karate was founded in 1992, which means the year after next will be their 30-year anniversary.

Palm Court Karate based in Weltevreden Park is excited to announce that the dojo has reopened for training under strict government regulations.

Not only is the dojo Covid-19 compliant in terms of government regulations, Karate South Africa has put stringent standards and procedures into place so that parents and students will have peace of mind when they return to training.

Throughout the different lockdown stages they were able to offer classes via Zoom and Facebook, and once restrictions were eased, the NG Kerk on Cornelius Street in Weltevreden Park very kindly offered their property and facilities so that students could attend outdoor classes too.

“We are currently training our students in online classes, outdoors, and at the dojo.

“Having so many options has meant that students were able to train with us all the way through lockdown,” said Sensei Mario Sequeira, the head instructor and owner.

Palm Court Karate was founded in 1992, which means the year after next will be their 30-year anniversary. According to Sensei Mario, the dojo is planning to celebrate this milestone along with their students.

During these years they have proudly produced over 200 black belts, 12 qualified instructors, numerous South African national champions, and many students who obtained national colours.

”Now that the dojo is open we are excited to welcome the returning students, and new students who want to come and try out classes,” said Sensei Mario.

Sensei Mario is a seasoned 5th Dan karateka who is passionate about teaching traditional Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate.

Members of the community interested in obtaining more information about the dojo are encouraged to visit their website at www.palmcourtkarate.co.za, the Palm Court Karate Facebook page, or to call 083 228 6331.
