ProTouch riders phenomenal on first road race
The ProTouch team did a phenomenal job as always by working seamlessly together towards one goal – to win the race.
ProTouch Continental Cycling dominated the Fat Sheep Classic race, which was the first race after the first levels of lockdown. Despite the nerves being always high, the team rose to the occasion.
The ProTouch team did a phenomenal job as always by working seamlessly together towards one goal – to win the race.
The team members felt great to be able to race again, and the race was pretty fast going out, with no one really committing to riding.
At about 60km, a small group of six riders, among them two ProTouch teammates – Calvin Beneke and Kent Main – got away.
Gustav Basson was able to cross over to them and the three ProTouch riders rode phenomenally to the finish line.
“At about 10–15km in the gutter winds I decided to attack in the hope of Kent and Calvin to just sit on the wheels and make the others work.
“Fortunately for me I managed to stay away and took the win for the team,” said race winner Gustav.
Calvin came in second while Kent finished 5th, followed by Rohan sixth, while the rest of the team controlled the peloton and finished in the bunch.
The race was presented under Level 2 regulations and cooperation was crucial to make the first road race under lockdown a success.
