Former head coach welcomed back

Mabusela takes over the position from the club’s deputy president, Fannie Dlamini, who had been at the reins as caretaker coach.

After switching and making changes to the technical team of the club without satisfying results, Golden Drifters Football Club reappointed its former coach, Mahlatsi Mabusela.

In a statement the club issued on 16 November, the Zandspruit outfit indicated that it had reached an agreement with the former SAB head coach to appoint him as the 2020/ 2021 head coach with immediate effect.

Mabusela takes over the position from the club’s deputy president, Fannie Dlamini, who had been at the reins as caretaker coach.

The club’s president, Proud Shoko, said Dlamini is expected to return to the office of the presidency with a full focus on all developments within the SAB team, “… and he will be working closely with Siyabonga Banda, our football administrator,” he said.

Coach Mabusela has quite an impressive reputation with the club. In their debut season of the SAB league, he changed the club’s philosophy, which saw them returning to winning ways after a bad start of the season.

The coach took over after the club had lost 10 games. During his tenure, he managed to get the club to win 10 games and get four draws – ending the season in a comfortable ninth position.

His vision before leaving the club was to have the club promoted to the ABC Motsepe League.

Shoko concluded by wishing his technical team a fruitful season ahead, and promised full support from the board.
