The team plans to extend its continental programme to include Africa and Asia Tour racing, and participation in a number of track and mountain-bike racing events.
Streamline brands group, best known for its DelForno Pizza Pasta Grill Restaurants recently made an announcement about its investment into road cycling in South Africa.
With a sponsorship into the number-one road cycling team in Africa, ProTouch Continental Cycling – South Africa, the launch of an exciting new format of Pro Racing events is on the horizon.
Del Forno and ProTouch are also helping to support the Bushbuckridge Cycling Academy in Mpumalanga and are hoping that the sponsorship will add a new dimension for Athletes Road Cycling Series, and a new under 23/ Elite Club Racing Team.
“I am really excited about the development of my new-found passion and would like to see more spectator-driven racing for Pro Cyclists and teams.
“I have gotten to know some of these talented athletes in the past few months and understanding some of the funding challenges to get onto the world stage.
“I’m eager to find ways to assist talented athletes in achieving their dreams,” announced Sotiri Frantzeskakis, CEO of Streamline Brands.
The investment into cycling also includes the Support SA Talent Project, which was spearheaded by ProTouch since 2018 to recognise local South African talent, and provide a platform upon which to create funding opportunities for top-performing South African athletes.
The agreement includes naming rights to the Support SA Road Cycling Series, Virtual Racing Series and a new Pro Racing League launching in March 2021.
“We are extremely grateful for Del Forno’s commitment to our team and continental programme, as well as the further development of road cycling talent to feed into our programme.
“We believe that with more investment like this, we can continue to enable more African riders onto the World Stage,” said ProTouch Continental Cycling Team Principal, Tony Harding.
The West Rand-based, ProTouch Pro Cycling has been the top-ranked Continental team in Africa for two consecutive years now.
The team plans to extend its continental programme to include Africa and Asia Tour racing, and participation in a number of track and mountain-bike racing events.
